Life Without Time

Description
Sunrise over Wae Rebo, an ancient village in the highlands of Flores. The indigenous Manggarai people have lived on the island of East Nusa Tenggara for centuries. Around 100 years ago, the ancestor Empu Maro guided his tribe up into the highlands, under the protection and guidance of a spirit, where they have lived shielded from the outside world at 1,100m above sea level for some 18 generations now. They live in large numbers in these cone-shaped thatched houses called mbaru niang.
