Description
The Masters of Tana Toraja, the land of the Toraja people, during a funeral ceremony that sacrifices a multitude of water buffalo. It is believed that the ancestors descended from the heavens. After their earthly death, the animals are thought to carry the deceased back to Puya, the land of souls.
Torajan culture contains strong hierarchical structures, with masters in every village deciding the amount of buffalos sacrificed and the distribution of the meat.
